Rosa Crocker is grateful for understanding from her parents that "to educate a woman is to educate a family,” and from her esteemed school board predecessor that “our wealth is in our children.” Her 30+ years of local and regional education advocacy includes 15 on the board of the Rappahannock County Public Schools, collaborating with others to start the Curriculum Enrichment Program, Headwaters, and Next Step college and career access and scholarship program, serving with the latter since inception. She also counts service with the Mountain Vista Governor’s School Foundation, Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation, Rappahannock County Recreational Facilities Authority, and outreach for Trinity Episcopal Church, Washington, among volunteer roles. She and Jay Monroe founded and have run a small professional design practice throughout helping to launch county-educated offspring Frances and Owen, and honorary son Mohsin. Rosa, with a University of Virginia MLA and Macalester College BA (music), maintains professional practice and American Society of Landscape Architects membership while enjoying family and friends, community service, and exploring all kinds of natural and cultural landscapes, especially through travel.
